Surviving Valentines Day
Valentines day is not all that it is cracked up to be. In fact I believe those who profit the most from this day is the business world who sell gifts, flowers, candy, and extravagant dinners out.
I was listening to a friend Relationship Coach Lori Rubenstein's radio talk show this morning and she said that men really don't like Valentines day. It isn't that they don't want to be romantic but they don't like an outside party dictating to them, when they have to be.
Then we have all those who don't have a Valentine this year who may be feeling lonely, left out and sad, perhaps reflecting on memories of days gone by, or that one special Valentines day.
So really...if you are feeling bah hum bug about Valentines day you are NOT alone.
Ironically on Lori's show today her guest was Ken Donaldson, the author of the book "Marry Yourself First" and what a great title that is. The title in itself says it all. We have to have that love affair with ourselves before we can expect to have a successful relationship outside ourselves. We are part of the equation that attracts the relationships we are in, are leaving or have left behind. There is something about us that attracts what we attract.
This is why I encourage all who are seeking a new lease on life to begin right there with that person in the mirror. It all starts with you. You are the key to your happiness and success in life. The more you dig deep and discover who you are and what it is that you truly want out of life, the more you will begin attracting those very things to you.
So be your own Valentine this year and find all the reasons to romance yourself and treat yourself kindly. Do something special for you, whether it means preparing your favorite meal, getting a massage, buying yourself a special little gift, giving yourself a counseling session or anything that will help you to develop a stronger more empowering relationship with yourself.
Happy Valentines Day to you!
